Visit o2

We launched on 1 June 2021, combining the UK’s largest and most reliable mobile network with a broadband network offering the fastest widely-available broadband speeds.

We’re a customer-first organisation that brings a range of connectivity services together in one place with a clear mission: to upgrade the UK.

We are the corporate brand of the 50:50 joint venture between Liberty Global and Telefónica SA, and are one of the UK’s largest businesses.

We have 46.2 million UK connections across broadband, mobile, TV and home phone. Our own fixed network currently has 16.4 million homes serviceable alongside a mobile network that covers 99% of the nation’s population with 4G, and more than 2800 towns and cities with 5G services.

Investing in people and powering the nation

Virgin Media O2 is a major investor in the UK. We employ around 16,000 people, have 384 retail stores and have committed to invest at least £10 billion over the next five years.

To bring new opportunities to people across the nation, we’re also creating 1,000 apprenticeship roles.

Four months after launch, Virgin Media O2 launched its first ever joint product, Volt, bringing together award winning connectivity and amazing entertainment from both Virgin Media and O2, to give customers even more from their services – more speed, more data and more value. A year after launch Volt exceeded the one million milestone.

Virgin Media O2 will bring together next-generation gigabit broadband and 5G services while expanding its network reach across the country. In July 2022, Virgin Media O2’s shareholders, Liberty Global and Telefónica, alongside investment firm, InfraVia Capital Partners, announced a major investment in Britain of approximately £4.5bn with the creation of a new fibre joint venture.  Virgin Media O2 is the anchor tenant of this joint venture and will provide build services to nexfibre. The deployment of full fibre to upgrade our existing network gained traction in 2022 as we remain on track to complete our entire network upgrade by 2028. The total fibre footprint will cover up to 23 million or around 80% of the U.K.

Virgin Media O2 delivers award-winning broadband and WiFi connectivity to homes as well as providing a connected entertainment service. This brings together live TV, thousands of hours of on-demand programming and a wide-selection of apps to customers through a set-top box and on-the-go through tablets and smartphones.

We also provide 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G mobile services and we’re the network of choice for mobile virtual network operators giffgaff and Sky Mobile, as well as managing a 50:50 joint venture with Tesco for Tesco Mobile.

Virgin Media O2 Business plays a leading role in supporting the public sector and businesses of all sizes. This includes a variety of managed connectivity services and flexible working capabilities, security, data insight, 5G private networks and cloud solutions, as well as wholesale services to other operators and partners.

Sustainability and Responsible Business

Virgin Media O2’s vision is to create an inclusive, green and connected future for its customers and the communities. It will harnesses its core strengths of powerful technology, digital expertise, passionate people, and its steadfast committment to operate a green business creating a wider positive ripple effect in the fight against climate change.

The company launched its ESG strategy, the Better Connections Plan, to realise this vision. To ensure that the plan is grounded in the needs of the next generation when it comes to social and environmental issues, VMO2 established a Youth Advisory Council in 2022, composed of Gen Z activists who play a critical friend role and provide invaluable perspectives about the targets set and the execution of the strategy.  The strategy is centred around three focus areas- Zero carbon future, A circular economy, Connected communities, and underpinned by a robust responsible business governance. It centres VMO2‘s ambitions on cutting carbon faster; tackling the growing problem of e-waste; reducing data poverty and digital exclusion; and making sure the business grows in an ethical, inclusive way.
